Surrounded by the desert of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and accessible only by crossing the dunes, lies the Unesco World Heritage Site of Khor Al Adaid. This saltwater basin is fed by a narrow 10km channel from the Persian gulf, creating an incredibly unique and sensitive ecosystem that provides shelter to a wide variety of marine life including turtles and the illusive dugong, which are able to thrive under its protection.
